UT Permian Basin closed out its first ever Lone Star Conference season Saturday on a frigid late April afternoon with a pair of 9-1 and 10-6 losses against Tarleton State at the UTPB Softball Field.
The Falcons fought back on offense to rally in game two, tying the contest with a six-run bottom of the fourth inning that evened the game at 4-4. The first four batters of the inning reached base, beginning with
Lizzie Souza opening the frame with a leadoff walk. She scored a batter later on a
Daisy Aguilar double to the wall, and Aguilar stepped on the plate on a single by
Cindy Juarez. Juarez moved to second when
Alexis Watson reached on a fielding error.
Both batters came in to score on a
Jessica Gonzales single into center to close the score to 6-4.
Ashlynn Williams walked, and
Melissa Zuniga singled back up the middle tied the game at 6-6.
Tarleton State grabbed the lead back again in the fifth on an unearned two-out run, and scored three more in the top of the seventh for the 10-6 win.
Earlier in game one, the Falcons scored their lone run of the opener when Williams came in from third to score on a wild pitch in the bottom of the fourth.
The Falcons celebrated the careers of seniors
Randi May,
Daisy Aguilar,
Melissa Zuniga and
Chelsae Faries after the doubleheader. The four will play in their last games at UTPB this Tuesday in a non-conference pair of games against University of the Southwest beginning at 2 p.m.
