UT Permian Basin softball closed out the 2017 season on a high note as the Falcons scored the last 10 runs of the day to pick up an 11-4 win over University of the Southwest Tuesday afternoon. USW earlier won the opening game of the doubleheader 4-2 in extra innings.
 Trailing 4-1 in the bottom of the second in game two, UTPB took the lead behind a pair of hits from
Daisy Aguilar and
Cindy Juarez that drove in a pair of runs each to lead 6-4.
Another base hit in the bottom of the fourth from Aguilar scored
Alyssa Lopez for a 7-4 advantage.
UTPB pieced together run-scoring hits from
Chelsae Faries, Lopez and
Melissa Zuniga in the bottom of the fifth for three more runs to go ahead 10-4, and Sam Rodriguez hit a single in the bottom of the sixth with the bases loaded for the 11-4 advantage.
Kylee Foster earned her fifth win of the season, allowing one hit and a walk in 5.2 scoreless innings of relief action.
Aguilar led the Falcons with four RBI on three base hits. Juarez and Lopez each drove in a pair of runs while
Lizzie Souza, Faries and Lopez each scored twice.
The Mustangs took the opener 4-2 in extra innings, scoring three runs in the top of the eighth.
UTPBÂ led early on when Zuniga drove the first pitch of the day over the fence in center field.Â
Southwest scored their first run before extra innings on a sacrifice fly in the top of the third.
