UT Permian Basin softball opened up a seven-game home stretch to close out the 2017 regular season with a pair of 7-3 and 4-3 losses to Oklahoma Panhandle State at the UTPB Softball Field.
Oklahoma Panhandle State put together a five-run second inning in the top of the second after loading the bases with one out.
Trailing 6-0 in the bottom of the fourth, the Falcons scored the next three runs with RBI base hits from
Jessica Gonzales and
Ashlynn Williams in the fourth and an
Adrianna Berzoza RBI single in the fifth to trail 6-3.
The Falcons took an early 3-0 lead in game two as
Alyssa Lopez came across home plate on a ball thrown away down the fence into right field.
Daisy Aguilar later scored on a fielding error at first, and Berzoza reached home on a wild pitch.
The Aggies got their first run in the top of the third on a sacrifice fly into center and tied the game in the top of the sixth on a two-run double. Panhandle scored the winning run on a sac fly to drive in an unearned run in the top of the seventh.
Melissa Zuniga led the Falcons at the plate on the day, hitting 4-of-8 with a pair of base hits in each game.
UTPB is back home this weekend, hosting Tarleton State in the team's final Lone Star Conference series of the season Friday and Saturday.
