UT Permian Basin men's basketball won't have to dig deep for information on its potential first two opponents next weekend at the NCAA Tournament South Central Regional, as the #2-seeded Falcons open the weekend with Lone Star Conference member #7 Texas A&M - Kingsville, with the winner advancing to play one of fellow LSC members West Texas A&M or Texas A&M - Commerce in Golden, Colorado.
UTPB advanced to its first ever NCAA Tournament after winning both the Lone Star Conference regular season and tournament championships in its first year as a conference member. The Falcons ended the regular season 14-4 in league play, including winning its last seven games to end the regular season.
The Falcons earned their first Lone Star Conference Tournament Championship by earning victories over Midwestern State, Texas A&M - Commerce and a championship game victory over Angelo State.
UT Permian Basin is joined at the South Central Region by four other Lone Star Conference members. West Texas A&M, Tarleton State, Texas A&M - Commerce and Kingsville are all making the trip north, and will be joined by host Colorado School of Mines and Fort Lewis from the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, and Arkansas Fort Smith out of the Heartland Conference.
The Falcons are 2-0 this season against the Javelinas, most recently coming out of Kingsville with an all-time classic 3OT victory a little over two weeks ago.
