Cindy Juarez picked up her first win of the season, tossing seven shutout innings on the road in Lone Star Conference play as the Falcons defeated Midwestern State 6-0 Saturday afternoon in Wichita Falls, Texas.
Scoreless on both sides through five innings,
Lizzie Souza got the Falcons in the lead with a pinch hit home run to left field for a 1-0 advantage. Six batters later
Samantha Rodriguez singled through the right side to drive in
Daisy Aguilar to double up the lead to 2-0.
The Falcons pounded out four more runs in the bottom of the seventh, starting with an Adriana Berzoza double that scored
Melissa Zuniga.
Chelsae Faries singled back up the middle to score Souza, and then she later stole second as Berzoza stole home on the throw.
Sloan Springfield drove in the fourth run of the inning on a ball back up the middle.
UTPB ended the game with 12 hits, led by Berzoza, Juarez and Rodriguez each with a pair, while Souza scored twice in two plate appearances and Aguilar stepped on the plate two times to lead the Falcons.
UTPB is back on the road this week, traveling to Alpine, Texas Tuesday afternoon for a doubleheader at Sul Ross.
