Adrianna Berzoza homered in the top of the eighth with a runner on base, and the two run blast proved to be needed as the Falcons picked up a 6-5 extra-inning victory on the road at Sul Ross. The Lobos earlier in the day scored a pair of runs with two-outs in the bottom of the seventh to defeat the Falcons 7-6.
UTPB led 4-0 through four and a half innings in game two after
Cindy Juarez drove in a run on a double in the top of the first to start off the scoring. Base hits by
Alyssa Lopez and Jessica Gonzalez pushed the UTPB lead to three, and a
Melissa Zuniga RBI single in the 5th gave UTPB a four-run cushion.
Sul Ross tied the game in the fifth behind a pair of run-scoring hits, including a bases-loaded double that scored three to tie the game at 4-4.
Berzozas two-run jack proved worthwhile in the bottom of the eighth when Sul Ross got a run back on a sacrifice fly, but
Kylee Foster locked up the win with a pop up to short to end the game.
Lopez led the Falcons with three hits in game two, scoring twice in the game. Zuniga also produced a pair of runs.
UTPB also held a late lead in the first game, going ahead 6-5 on a single by Jessica Gonzalez in the sixth and a base hiy by
Daisy Aguilar in the seventh to go on top.Â
Sul Ross came through in game two with a pair of run-scoring hits, both with two outs, to take the 7-6 win.
Berzoza went 2-4 in the opener with an RBI and a pair of runs, while Gonzales also had a pair of hits and drove in one.
UTPB is back on the road this weekend in conference action, traveling to Lawton, Okla. for a three game Lone Star Conference series at Cameron.
