Falcons Outlast Javelinas in Over-Over-Overtime

It took 55 minutes, 32 turnovers and 30 personal fouls, but UT Permian Basin men's basketball persevered and pulled out an 87-81 triple overtime victory Saturday afternoon on the road at Texas A&M - Kingsville in Lone Star Conference action.

Johnnie Lacy came through big in the third overtime session, hitting a pair of free throws and a 3-pointer on consecutive possessions to score the first five points of the third OT. 

Lacy later cemented the win with a pair at the line with 13 seconds left for the six point margin of victory.

Texas A&M - Kingsville earlier had a pair of buzzer-beaters to send the game to extra minutes, ending regulation with a 3-pointer by Caelan Neal before time expired that originally sent the game to overtime, and a basket before the clock hit zeros by Marcus Frazier to tie the second overtime period at 77-77.

UTPB had at four players play at least 45 of the 55 total minutes in the game, led by Sammy Allen who sat for less than two minutes during the contest.

James McPherson and Johnnie Lacy came up big for the Falcons in the overtime sessions, leading the team with nine points each. 

Daeshon Francis led UT Permian Basin with 22 points on the night, hitting 12-16 from the free throw line. McPherson hit 5-8 from 3-point range to score 21 points on the day. Sammy Allen double-doubled with 14 points and 15 rebounds while Lacy added 14 points, six assists and seven rebounds.

The Falcons return home for the final week of the regular season, taking on Lone Star Conference-leading Tarleton State Thursday night before closing out the year against third in the conference Texas A&M - Commerce Saturday afternoon.
