UT Permian Basin weathered a rough start to the second quarter Saturday and picked up a 69-54 win on the road at Western New Mexico to improve to 2-0 in Lone Star Conference action Saturday afternoon.
After a 10-10 first quarter, Western New Mexico led 19-10 after the first four minutes of the second quarter.Â
UTPB recovered to tie the game at 25-25 on a 3-point play by Heather Crittenden in the final minute.
The Falcons came out on fire in the second half, out-scoring the Mustangs 21- 8 to break the tie in the 3rd quarter. UTPBÂ out-scored Western New Mexico 11-2 to end the quarter to lead the game 46-33.
Sierra LaGrande paced the Falcons with 20 points on the night, hitting 6-11 from downtown to go with five rebounds.
Kayla Bretherton added 10 points on 4-5 shooting from the field with five boards.
Victoria Lopez led the Falcons with four assists, grabbing four rebounds with six points.
Jasmine Spriggins hit four shots off the bench to add nine points.
The Falcons return home Tuesday night, welcoming nationally-ranked West Texas A&M to Odessa at 5:30 p.m.
