UT Permian Basin men's basketball got back on a winning track Saturday night, coming out of the Thanksgiving holiday with a 93-78 win over Southwestern Christian in non-conference play.
The Falcons trailed early on as the Eagles hit early shots to take a 10-5 advantage.Â
Zeldric King put the Falcons in the lead for the first time with 12:27 remaining in the first half, hitting a pair of baskets on consecutive possessions in his first game of the year for a 15-12 lead.
Garrett Baggett knocked in an offensive rebound off a block for a 3-pointer, and two possessions later Andres Villa hit a mid-range jumper for a 20-12 lead.
The Falcons led by as many as 24 points late in the second half, leading 83-59 as James McPherson scored all 16 of his points in the second half.
Daeshon Francis led UTPB with 21 points on the night, hitting 9-14 from the field with eight rebounds and four assists.Â
McPherson hit 4-6 from 3-point rage in scoring 16.Â
Sammy Allen dominated the glass, grabbing a season-high 18 rebounds to go with six assists and nine points.
The Falcons played solid free throw defense all night, holding Soutwestern Christian to just 20-42 at the free throw line on the afternoon (47 percent).
UTPBÂ is back on the road in non-conference play, traveling to San Antonio Monday night for a 6 p.m. tip at St. Mary's.
