UT Permian Basin men's basketball won its fifth straight game Thursday night, downing Western New Mexico 92-69 in Silver City, N.M.
The win improves the Falcons to 7-3 in the Lone Star Conference, good for second in the 10-team league entering play this weekend.Â
Sammy Allen, coming off of his second straight Lone Star Conference Defensive Player of the Week award, grabbed a season-high 20 rebounds as UTPB out-rebounded the Mustangs 49-33 on the night.
UTPB's starting five once again ended the night all in double figures in scoring, lead by
Josh Morris with 17 points on 5-6 shooting from the field and a 7-9 night at the free throw line. Johnny Lacy hit all six of his free throws in ending the night with 14 points.
James McPherson had a pair of 3-pointers with 13 points, and Allen and
Daeshon Francis each poured in 12 points.
The Falcons held the Mustangs to just 31 percent shooting from the field, their second best defensive effort as a team this season.
UTPB looks to keep its streak going this weekend, taking on Eastern New Mexico Saturday at 5 p.m. in Portales, N.M.
