UT Permian Basin men's basketball used a balanced offense, scoring 42 points in each half with all five starters scoring in double figures to lead wire-to-wire in picking up its first Lone Star Conference road win of the season in a 23-point, 84-61 win Thursday night at Texas A&M - Commerce in Commerce, Texas.
UTPB scored the first five points of the night on a three by
Johnnie Lacy and layup from
Daeshon Francis in the first minute and a half, and stretched the lead out to 13 points with 13:09 remaining in the first as part of an eight-point run with 3-pointers from
James McPherson and Lacy to go ahead 20-7.
The Lions closed within three points two different times in the first half, but a six-point run towards the end of the first half gave the Falcons their largest lead up to that point, 42-26, and they held a 42-29 advantage at the break.
The win was never in doubt in the second half as UTPBÂ never led by fewer than double digits in the final 20 minutes of the night. The Falcons shot 12-13 from the line and 14-26 from the field in the second half to close out the road victory.
Francis led with with 16 points on a 6-8 night from the field. McPherson and Lacy each scored 15 on the night; McPherson on 5-8 shooting from 3-point range.
Josh Morris and
Zeldric King each added 12 points, and
Sammy Allen led the Falcons with 10 rebounds and eight points, all of his points coming in the second half.
