UTPB Softball responded in a big way after surrendering game 1 in the seventh inning, hitting three home runs in game two on its way to an 11-7 win over Rogers State in Heartland Conference action in Claremore, Okla.
The Falcons tied the opener at 1-1 in the top of the fourth when
Zoe Murillo drove in
Adrianna Berzoza on a base hit back up the middle.
An inning later, Berzoza gave UTPB its first lead on an infield single with two runners on to score
Miley McKee.
McKee added to the Falcons advantage in the sixth, grounding out to short while scoring Murillo for a 3-1 lead.
Rogers State came back in the seventh, drawing a pair of bases-loaded walks to tie the game before winning on an outfield single for the 4-3 win.
The Falcons broke out the big bats in game two as
JJ Von Oesen and
Daisy Aguilar each homered in the first inning, Von Oesen a three-run blast and Aguilar a solo shot to give UT-Permian Basin an early 4-0 lead.
Rogers State erased that over the next two innings, scoring two in its half of the first and adding three in the second inning to go ahead 5-4.
UTPB rallied back with three more runs of its own in the third when Murillo singled to right to score
Irene Valdez, and Von Oesen hit her second dinger of the game, a two run shot to center field for a 7-5 lead.
Berzoza added to it in the fourth, plating Analise Fuentes on an infield single to short.
UTPB kept the scoring going in the seventh when Ashlynn Willians single through the left side with the bases loaded to drive in
Cyera Quintana. McKee then came up and doubled to left center to bring in Aguilar and
Brianna Red for an 11-5 lead.
Rogers State scored a pair of runs on an error in the ninth before ending the game down by four.
Von Oesen led the Falcons with 5 RBI on a 2-4 game at the plate. Murillo added two more base hits to end the day 5-9 at the dish and Aguilar went 3-4 in game two.
Randi May picked up the win, throwing 5.2 innings while giving up one earned run on eight hits and a walk while striking out five Hillcats.
The teams wrap up the three game set Sunday afternoon in Claremore, Okla.
