UTPB Softball took to the road Tuesday afternoon, dropping a pair of 8-1 and 9-5 contests against future Lone Star Conference opponent Texas A&M - Commerce in Commerce, Texas.
The Falcons were held to a lone run in game one, scoring a run in the top of the fourth when
Chelsae Faries singled to center with the bases loaded to drive in
Irene Valdez.
The Lions put up four runs in the bottom of the first inning to take an early lead and scored runs in each of the fourth, fifth and six innings.
UTPB cranked up the offense in game two, scoring the first four runs of the contest. Zoe Murrilo stole second in the top of the second and
Daisy Aguilar scored from third when the throw sailed into center. Murillo later came in, scoring on a fielder's choice bunt by
Brianna Red.
Red drove in her second run of the game in the top of the fourth, scoring Aguilar on an infield single to second for a 3-0 lead. Another infield single, this time to short by
Mallory Hall, led to Murillo scoring for the second time for a 4-0 lead.
Texas A&M - Commerce went deep two different times in the fourth and scored six runs in the inning to take its first lead of the game 6-4. It added three more runs in the bottom of the sixth for a 9-4 advantage.Â
Alyssa Lene added one back for the Falcons in the seventh, singling down the right field line to drive in Cyerra Quintana.
Murillo led the offense with a 2-3 day at the plate, scoring twice along with Aguilar while Red drove in a pair.
UTPB is back at home this weekend, hosting St. Mary's in a three game set that kicks off Friday.
