UTPB opened a three-game weekend set with St. Mary's Friday night with a pair of 9-3 and 7-0 losses to the Rattlers at the UTPB Softball Field in Odessa.
The Falcons held the Rattlers off the scoreboard over the first three innings Friday afternoon before a solo shot home run and a pair of unearned runs in the fourth gave St. Mary's a 3-0 lead after four innings.
St. Mary's broke through with six runs in the top of the sixth, highlighted by a grand slam that scored the final four runs of the game for a 9-0 lead.
UTPB crossed two past the plate in the sixth as
Irene Valdez laid down a bunt that scored
Brianna Red for the teams first run of the day. Cyerra Quintana later scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the sixth.
UTPB added another run in the seventh when
Daisy Aguilar went yard, hitting her first home run of the season.
St. Mary's came back to shut out the Falcons in the nightcap. Sydney Wellman followed up her first game grand slam with five RBI in game two, including a 3-run homer in the seventh.
The teams close out the series Saturday at noon.
