Baseball Drops Opening Conference Series at Texas A&M International

UT-Permian Basin baseball got an solid outing out of Chris Cano on the rubber, but the Falcons went into the ninth trailing by two and couldn't make a bases loaded, no out situation work in its favor in a 3-2 loss to Texas A&M International Sunday afternoon in Laredo.

UTPB broke up a scoreless game in the top of the fifth when Tyler Houlihan singled back up the middle to score Alex Fernandez from third.

Texas A&M International scored its first in the bottom of the sixth on a comebacker up the middle, and took the lead in the eighth on a single into left and an error that gave the Dustdevils a two-run advantage.

UTPB had its first four batters reach base in the ninth, as a Mike Fernandez double was sandwiched by walks from Jordan Pritchard. Houlihan reached on a fielder's choice as Pritchard scored to trail by a run, but the Dustdevils escaped with the win by getting a force out double play at home and first and a strikeout to end the game.

Cano went seven strong innings, allowing one runoff of six hits and a pair of walks while striking out three.

UTPB returns to the road Tuesday night, taking on Abilene Christian in Abilene.
