UT-Permian Basin softball went into the seventh inning holding a 5-4 lead, but Oklahoma Christian tied the game in the top of the seventh and scored three runs in the eighth to defeat the Falcons 8-5 Saturday afternoon at the UTPB Softball Field.
Alyssa Lene and
Zoe Murillo each recorded RBI base hits in the bottom of the first to help the Falcons take possession of a 2-1 lead.
Following a three-run third inning by the Eagles, the Falcons responded by grabbing one run back on a
Miley McKee single and they tied the game 4-4 when
Mallory Hall walked with the bases loaded to drive in McKee.
UTPB took its first lead of the day when Murillo doubled in Hall in the bottom of the sixth to go ahead 5-4, but OCU came back in the next half inning to tie the game back at 5-5 on a bases-loaded sacrifice fly.
Oklahoma Christian then scored three times on three different run-scoring hits in the top of the eighth.
Lene led the Falcons with a 3-4 day at the plate, walking once and driving in a run. Hall and
Irene Valdez each had a pair of hits at the top of the order, and Murillo drove in two on a 2-4 day.
UTPB hits the road next week, traveling to Commerce, Texas, for a Tuesday doubleheader against Texas A&M - Commerce.
