UTPB Softball put up a fight against Angelo State early in both games of a non-conference doubleheader Wednesday evening, taking the first lead in each contest, but the Rambelles put together big innings in each game to pull ahead for a pair of 6-2 & 8-2 wins at the UTPB Softball Field.
The Falcons went ahead 1-0 in the bottom of the second in the opener when
Chelsae Faries went deep for her first home run of the season.
Angelo State countered with a pair in the fourth, tying the game on a wild pitch before going ahead 2-1 on a base hit back up the middle.
The Rambelles added four more runs in the top of the fifth, scoring three on a pair of base hits into center and adding the fourth on a sacrifice fly.
JJ Von Oesen got one back in the bottom half of the inning, grounding out to second to score
Mallory Hall.
Faries led UTPB with a pair of hits in game one as the Falcons out-hit Angelo State 8-7 in the opener.
The Falcons grabbed the early lead again in game two when
Alyssa Lene walked with the bases loaded, but missed out on an opportunity to add to their total when they left three runners stranded to end the inning.
Angelo State scored on a sac bunt in the top of the second, but UTPB claimed the lead again when Von Oessen groudned out to second to drive in
Irene Valdez.
Angelo State put together a big fourth inning to break the game open, scoring six in the frame for a 7-2 advantage.
The Rambelles added an eighth run in the top of the sixth on a sac fly to center.
Valdez scored both runs in game two for the Falcons, while Lene had a hit in her only official plate appearance with a pair of walks.
UTPB heads to Grand Prairie, Texas, this weekend, playing six games in three days.
