Still in search of its first run of the day, the UT-Permian Basin offense broke out in a big way, scoring eight runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to score an 8-3 win against Universiy of the Southwest. Southwest earlier blanked the Falcons in a 1-0 shutout.
UTPB tied game two in the sixth when
Analisa Fuentes singled with the bases loaded to score Marissa Zuniga and
Daisy Aguilar doubled to drive in
Ashlynn Williams and
Irene Valdez.Â
JJ Von Oesen came up a batter later and cleared the bases, hitting a home run over the right field wall to give the Falcons a 6-0 lead before an out was recorded in the inning.
Brianna Red later added an RBI triple and Zuniga came back up to drive in the final run of the inning on a sac fly to right.
Eight different Falcons scored to go with eight different players each having a hit in the game.Â
RustieAnne Spinks picked up her first collegiate win for UTPB, throwing the final 3.2 innings while striking out four and allowing four hits.
Earlier in the day, Southwest picked up a 1-0 shutout win over the Falcons after scoring an unearned run in the top of the third. The Mustangs limited the UTPB offense to just three hits in the first game of the day.
UTPB is back home Tuesday afternoon, taking on Angelo State at 4 & 6 p.m.
