Wayland Baptist defeated UTPB Volleyball in its 2015 home opener Tuesday night, knocking off the Falcons 25-12, 25-20, 25-16.
The Falcons struggled on the attack in the first and third sets, hitting more errors than kills in the two sets they struggled in.
UTPB came through with 14 kills as they charged back from trailing by three to eventually take a 20-19 lead on a block by
Hannah Rebb and
Erica Poe.
Wayland Baptist played big on defense to close out the second set, winning the last four points on blocks to take the second 25-20.
Puava Tulau and
Caitlyn Guajardo each had a team-high six kills on the night. Poe led the Falcons with three blocks while
Jordan McDonald had 16 digs and
Ariana Gallardo tallied 16 assists.
The Falcons host their first Heartland Conference opponent later this week, welcoming Newman to the Falcon Dome Thursday night at 7 p.m.
