8/7/2015 3:34:00 PM

UTPB football head coach Justin Carrigan has rounded out his coaching staff, hiring Robert Conley to coach the offensive line and Carlos Barocio-Leon to work with special teams and running backs.

Prior to UTPB, Conley completed three season at the University of Utah as graduate assistant on both offense and defense. In his first two seasons at Utah, Conley helped develop second-team All-Pac-12 offensive lineman Sam Brenner and honorable mention selection Jeremiah Poutasi (Tennessee Titans).

Conley spent the 2011 season as a graduate assistant offensive line coach at Utah State.

Before embarking on a coaching career, Conley was a four-year starting right guard at Utah. He was a first-team All-Mountain West selection and third-team All-American for Utah's 2009 Sugar Bowl champion team as well as a co-captain. He was honorable mention All-MWC in 2006 and second team in 2007.

Conley received a bachelor's degree in economics from Utah in 2008 and master's degree in sports management in 2014.

"I'm excited to get Robert back to Texas," Carrigan said. "He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to offensive line and you win championships up front.  Robert is no stranger to championships, winning a state championship for La Marque High School in 2003 and a Sugar Bowl victory over #4 Alabama his senior year at Utah."

Barocio-Leon was an assistant coach at SMU from 2008-2014.  He served as Special Teams Coordinator for the Mustangs from 2013-2014.

Barocio-Leon spent the 2012 season as Coordinator of Quality Control (Offense) and previously served as offensive graduate assistant and video graduate assistant. Barocio-Leon came to SMU from Texas College, where he served as the Offensive Coordinator and quarterbacks coach, helping the Steers claim the CSFL Championship in 2005.

Barocio-Leon played college football for New Mexico State and then played professionally in Italy for one year with the Bergamo Lions.

After his playing days, Barocio-Leon turned to coaching and became the Offensive Coordinator at the University of Nuevo León in Monterrey, México. After two seasons, he returned to Europe and served stints as the Head Coach of the Badalona Dracs, winning two National Spanish titles and one Spain's Cup, and the Bergamo Lions, winning two Italian National Championships and two Eurobowl Titles (XIV & XV).

He also served as Head Coach for the Tyrolean Raiders in Innsbruck, Austria, and, in eight years of professional head coaching experience in the European Leagues, compiled an overall record of 74-16. In 2004, he returned to Mexico as Offensive Coordinator at Monterrey Tech Campus Toluca Rams for one season.

In 2011 and 2014 he served as a member of the Mexican National Team Coaching Staff that participated in the 4th and 5th Editions of the World Cup of American Football serving as Special Teams Coordinator/Wr Coach (2011) and Offensive Coordinator (2014).

Barocio-Leon has a B.A. and an M.B.A. from New Mexico State. He also earned a Masters Degree in Dispute Resolution from SMU.  He is fluent in Spanish and Italian and near-fluent in French and German.

"I'm excited to have Carlos with his wealthy of experience in special teams," said Carrigan. "He brings a lot of experience to the staff with his years as a head coach. With his seven years at SMU the relationships he developed in recruiting will pay off here as we build this program."
