Angelo State made its final trips to the plate count Wednesday night, scoring seven runs in the bottom of the sixth in game one in a 10-2 win and rallying with three runs in the bottom of the seventh to walk off with a 4-3 defeat of UTPB softball at Mayer Field in San Angelo, Texas.
The Falcons led early on, taking a 1-0 lead in the third when
Irene Valdez reached on an error to score
Niki DiSera.
After an unearned run in the fourth for the Rambelles, the Falcons added a run in each of the fifth and sixth innings on RBI hits from
Nikki Salazar and
Adrianna Berzoza to go ahead 3-1.
ASU closed within a run in the bottom of the second on an RBI single back up the middle and won the game on a two-run double into center.
The Falcons had led early on in the first game of the day when
Ashlynn Williams and
Miley McKee each drove in a run on base hits in the top of the third to go on top 2-1.
Angelo State scored two in the bottom half of the inning to go back on top 3-2, and scored six more in the bottom of the sixth to end the opener 10-2 after six innings.
The Falcons are back in Heartland Conference action this weekend, traveling to San Antonio for a four-game series at St. Mary's Friday and Saturday afternoons.
