Box Score 2 UTPB Baseball got back on a winning track Tuesday, taking a pair of 10-2 and 6-3 wins over University of the Southwest at Roden Field in Odessa.
The Falcons broke out the sticks in game one, as
Kevin Barnes and
Jose Sierra each homered in the contest. Barnes went deep to left center to drive in three as part of a four-run first inning, and Sierra hit a blast off the bat to left center in the bottom of the fifth for the team's 10th and final run.
Three different Falcons drove in three runs in the game, as
Bryan Van Vranken brought home the first run of the game on a sac fly in the first and later doubled to right center with a pair on base to join Sierra and Barnes as team RBI leader.
Chris Cano earned his seventh win of the season in throwing the first four scoreless innings. He gave up a pair of hits and walked none with three strikeouts.
The Falcons and Mustangs traded runs in the first two innings of game two, with UTPB matching Southwest in each of the frames.
Ryan Souza tied the game at 1-1 with a single up the middle to score
Matt Reyes, and a sac fly by
Ty Morgan and RBI groundout from
Colin Kowal evened the game at 3-3 through two innings.
Barnes drove in his fourth of the day with a ground out to short in the third to put the Falcons in the lead for the first time in game two 4-3, and
Nolan Schattel added to the lead with an RBI single back up the middle into center.
Kowal added a final run with a single into center that drove home Schattel in the bottom of the sixth.
Brooks Eady won his first of the season, throwing three scoreless innings after entering to begin the fourth. He walked one and allowed no hits, striking out five. Schattel came in to finish the game with a scoreless seventh, striking out a pair to record his eighth save.
The Falcons hit the road this weekend, traveling to Goodwell, Okla, for their final road conference series of the year at Oklahoma Christian.
