Box Score 2 UTPB baseball opened up a three-game set against UA Fort Smith Friday afternoon taking a 5-2 game one victory before UAFS came up with an 8-2 defeat of the Falcons at Roden Field in Odessa.
UA Fort Smith took the first lead of the afternoon on a single down the right field line with one on to go ahead 1-0.
The Falcons got the run back in the bottom of the inning when
Daniel Andrade scored from first on a double down the left field line into the corner by Alfred Itturalde. UTPB took its first lead of the day when
Randal Toribio singled into right, scoring Itturalde to go on top 2-1.
Kevin Barnes drove in two an inning later, hitting a chopper over the head of the third baseman that scored
Colin Kowal and
David Lee. Andrade brought home a third run on a sac fly to right for a 5-1 advantage.
Lance Fairchild earned this win in the complete game victory, throwing seven innings of two-run ball. He struck out three on the day, giving up six hits and a pair of walks.Â
Lee and Itturalde led the offense with a pair of hits, each scoring once and Itturalde driving in a run.
The Falcons scored first in game two, taking a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first on a
Bryan Van Vranken single that scored
Matt Reyes.
UAFS came back with the next four runs, taking the lead with a pair in the fourth before adding two more on a two-run single in the sixth.
Iturralde grabbed one back in the sixth for the Falcons on a groundout to third that brought in Van Vranken.
UA Fort Smith kept the Falcons at bay the rest of the game and scored the final four runs of the game, closing out the contest with a run in the seventh and three more in the ninth.
The Teams are back in action Saturday afternoon in a rubber match beginning at 1 p.m.
