Softball Closes Series with TAMIU with 3-2 Win

UTPB softball closed out its first Heartland Conference home series of the year with a 3-2 victory over Texas A&M International at the UTPB Softball Field Saturday afternoon.

The Falcons took the lead in the bottom of the first, taking a 1-0 lead when JJ Von Oesen doubled into center and Mallory Hall scored on the play.

Texas A&M International tied the game at 1-1 on a two-out unearned run after a throwing error to even the score.

The Dustdevils went ahead with in the top of the fifth, piecing together three hits to take a 2-1 lead.

The Falcons came through in their final trip to the plate in the bottom of the sixth, grabbing the lead once again when Niki DiSera hit a deep double off the wall in left field to drive home Von Oesen after Hall had scored earlier in the inning on an error.

Kim Alonzo worked around a leadoff walk to start the seventh, getting a pair of fly outs in the outfield to close out the team's first Heartland win of the season.

Irene Valdez had a pair of hits for UTPB at the top of the lineup and Hall scored twice on the afternoon.

Alonzo earned her second win of the season, allowing two runs, one earned, on six hits and a pair of walks with two strikeouts.

The Falcons venture to Stephensville, Texas, next weekend for a two game non-conference series against Tarleton State.
