Box Score 2 UTPB baseball came back after dropping Friday afternoon's series opener 8-0 to #15 St. Edward's at Lucian-Hamilton Field in Austin, Texas, handing the Hilltoppers a 5-1 defeat in game two of the three game set.
The Falcons got on the scoreboard first in their second trip to the plate in the second game of the day as
Kevin Barnes and Brian Van Vranken scored a pair of runs on an error in the outfield in the top of the second for a two-run lead.
After the Hilltoppers got one back in the second, the Falcons rattled off a run in each of the next three innings. Van Vranken drove home
Ryan Souza in the third with a double down the left field line after Souza led off the frame with a triple. Souza then scored Randall Toribio with a single to left center in the fourth, and
Daniel Andrade came home on a double play in the fifth for a 5-1 lead.
Brad Paramapoonya improved to 3-1 this season, limiting St. Edward's to a run on four hits and a walk. He struck out three in the seven-inning appearance.
Brooks Eady, Hector Arrelano and
Nolan Schattel combined to throw two scoreless innings, Schattel coming on and getting the final two outs with the tying run on deck for his second save of the year.
UTPB saved the split after St. Edward's put together multiple run innings in the second, fourth and sixth innings in an 8-0 win to open the day.
The Falcons look to take the series Saturday afternoon when the teams meet back in Austin to close out the weekend. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
