Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 UTPB baseball kicked off its 2015 regular season Saturday afternoon with a pair of wins over University of the Southwest, defeating the Mustangs 2-1 and 3-0 at Roden Field in Odessa.

The Falcons were trailing in game one after Southwest scored an unearned run in the top of the second. Ryan Souza tied the game in the top of the fourth, starting the inning with a walk and moving over to second on a steal. With one out, he stole third and a bad throw on the attempt allowed him to come home for the team's first run of the game.

UTPB scored again in its last time at the plate in the opener. Matt Reyes led off the top of the six with a HBP and moved to second on a sac bunt. After a steal of third, Jack Miller grounded out to short to plate Reyes for the 2-1 lead.

Southwest stranded the tying run on first after a two-our single when the Falcons got a flyout to center to wrap up the win.

David Lee ended with two of the team's three hits in the opener as Reyes and Souza scored at the top of the lineup.

Hector Arellano earned the win, allowing four hits with no walks. He struck out three in the last five innings in a relief role.

The Falcons waited until late to score again in game two, breaking open a scoreless tie with three runs in the bottom of the seventh. Colin Kowal doubled with the bases full, driving home Ty Morgan and Morgan Munguia. Lee flew out later in the inning to center and Nathan Schattel scored from third on the sac fly.

Chris Cano went seven innings on the mound for UTPB, striking out six while allowing three hits and a pair of walks in earning the win. Matt Villanueva tossed two innings of scoreless relief to earn the save, pulling a pair of runners on base with a pair of strikeouts.
