Box Score UTPB women's basketball kicked off its 2015-16 regular season Friday night with a five point, 64-59 loss against New Mexico Highlands in Goodwell, Okla.

The Falcons led late in the contest by as many as eight points when Kayla White hit a layup to lead 56-48 with 5:52 remaining in the fourth quarter.

Highlands went on an 11-0 run over the next three and a half minutes to take a one-possession 59-56 lead.

A three-pointer from Niniva Taito with 2:09 remaining tied the contest at 59-59, but MNHU his a layup with 1:21 on the clock to claim the lead 61-59. The Cowgirls hit a 3-pointer on their next possession to lead by the final score of 64-59.

Taito was the only Falcon to end the night in double-figures, leading UTPB and all players on the day with 18 points and a 4-of-7 night from behind the 3-point line. Jau'nae Peevy added eight points and led UT-Permian Basin with five rebounds.

The Falcons are back in action Saturday afternoon, facing Western New Mexico at 4 p.m.
