UTPB Volleyball rallied two different times after dropping sets to Texas A&M International, forcing a fifth and final set, but weren't able to pull through as TAMIU won 3-2 Thursday night in Odessa.
The Falcons picked up a 25-18 win in the fourth to extend the match behind their best attacking set of the evening, hitting .424 in the 4th with 17 kills and just three errors. UTPB broke a 4-4 tie early on with five straight points and held off the Dustdevils from getting any closer than a pair of points. The Falcons later scored five more in a row, getting four straight kills, to extend their lead to 16-9 before closing out the seven-point set win.
Set five went back and forth early on, with thee lead changes and six ties in the first 14 points.
Morgann Davis got a kill at 8-7 and UTPB went ahead 9-7 on an attack error by Texas A&M International, but the Dustdevils scored the next three to take a 10-9 lead. They later scored three in a row to serve for match point ahead 14-11, and won on a kill three points later to take the match with a 15-13 set win.
Three different players led the UTPB attack as Davis,
Puava Tulau and
Caitlyn Guajardo each had 10 kills on the night. Davis led the team hitting .435 with no errors on 23 attempts.
Ariana Gallardo paced the Falcons with 25 assists and
Jordan McDonald had a team-best 20 digs.
The Falcons are back at home Saturday afternoon, taking on St. Mary's at 12 p.m.
