UTPB men's basketball struggled from the field in the first half, shooting just 34 percent in a 91-71 loss on the road against Rogers State in Claremore, Okla.
The Falcons led early on, going up by five on a 3-pointer from
Chris Griffin to lead 9-4 at 15:01 of the first.Â
Rogers State took over, scoring the next 11 points to grab a six-point advantage.
The Hillcats kept the lead throughout the rest of the first and led by 10 points heading into halftime with a 33-23 lead.
Both teams heated up from the field in the second half, each shooting over 50 percent after the half compared to both shooting in the 30's in the first half.
Rogers State kept its lead in double digits for nearly all of the second half, pulling away with four straight after the Falcons were able to cut the advantage to nine four minutes in.
Turnovers hurt the Falcons on the day, committing 19 TOs to just nine by Rogers State. RSU got to the free throw line 38 times and hit 28 attempts, while the Falcons made 9-of-19 from the line on the day.
Chris Griffin led UTPB with 17 points and nine rebounds.
Madison Turner added 16 points while
Xavier Martin scored 14.
DesJuan Newton and J.C. Hartzler paced Rogers State with 19 points each, while Frederico Santos scored 14 with 16 rebounds to lead all players.
The Falcons are back at home Thursday night, hosting St. Edward's at 5:30 p.m.
