Lubbock Christian shot 62 percent from the field and scored 48 points while holding UTPB to 22 percent shooting in the first half and just 25 points in an eventual 89-76 defeat Thursday night in Heartland Conference play in Odessa.
The Lady Chaps built a double-digit lead 12 mintes into the game, going on top 25-14 behind eight straight points after leading by three.
Lubbock Christian led by 23 entering halftime and held a game-high 25-point advantage after a pair at the line 13 seconds into the second half.
UTPB woke up after halftime, outscoring LCU 51-41 in the second half. The Falcons were able to cut the advantage down to 13 points on a layup by
Valerie Barriga and a 3-pointer from Briana Dominguez to close within 64-51 with 11:40 to play, but never got any closer in the eventual 13-point loss.
Barriga led UTPB with 21 points, setting a new Heartland Conference free-throw percentage record with a perfect 15-15 night at the free-throw line.
Myangel Johnson added 18 points off the bench while
Giselle Loya added 11 points with three 3-pointers and
Trish Simpson went 4-7 from the field to score 10.
Haley Fowler led all players with 22 points for Lubbock Christian, hitting 9-10 field goals on the night. Allison Szabo contributed 17 points on 8-12 shooting.
UTPB is back at home Saturday afternoon, hosting Oklahoma Panhandle State at 1 p.m.
