UTPB women's basketball picked up its first win at home since starting conference play two weeks ago, shutting down Rogers State for a 74-43 victory Thursday night in Odessa.
The Falcons held the Hillcats scoreless for nearly eight minutes early in the first half and went from trailing 5-4 to leading RSU 20-5.
The UTPB defense held them scoreless again for a long stretch, increasing a 20-10 lead out to a 33-10 advantage with 4:37 to play in the first half. The Falcons led by as many as 25 points before heading into halftime with a 37-14 lead.
Trish Simpson led a balanced scoring attack in the first, leading UTPB with eight points and four rebounds.
Giselle Loya and
Valerie Barriga each had seven points and four rebounds with
Shaquiri Graham adding six points.
Graham led the Falcons with seven points in the second half as UTPB cruised. The lead grew to as many as 40 as UTPB started off the half with 16 straight points before closing out the 31-point win.
Graham led all players with 13 points of 5-8 shooting from the field. Barriga added 11 points and Loya had 10 points with seven reboudns and four assists.Â
The Falcons are back at home this weekend, hosting UA Fort Smith Saturday afternoon in Heartland Conference action at 1 p.m.
