Box Score UTPB men's basketball was unable to keep up with a hot-shooting Dallas Baptist team Saturday afternoon as the Falcons fell 98-90 in Heartland Conference action in Dallas.
Dallas Baptist connected on 16-of-32 of its attempts from three-point range on the day, hitting half of its total made field goals from behind the arc.
UTPB held a slim lead twice in the game, but never was ahead after 16:09 of the first half.
Dallas Baptist led by as many as 11 points two different times in the first half and held a 9-point, 49-40 lead at the break.
The Falcons were able to close the gap in the second half, cutting the lead down to three behind baskets from
Chris Griffin and
Lamar Falley to trail 71-68 with over 12 minutes left to play. UTPB tied the game a few minutes later at 73-73 on a three from Falley and a pair at the line from
Xavier Martin, but the Falcons were never able to regain the lead as the Patriots once again led by double digits and went on top 93-83 as UTPB never got close than six points in the eventual eight point loss.
Stephan Thompson led five UTPB players in double figures with 18 points off the bench, while
Codye Hatcher had a team-high eight rebounds to go with 14 points.
Myles Johnson led all players with 26 points for Dallas Baptist.
UTPB is back on the road next week, traveling to St. Mary's this Thursday for a 7:30 p.m. game.
