Box Score UTPB volleyball fought back from behind multiple times Saturday afternoon, forcing a one-loss Lubbock Christian to a fifth and final set before suffering a 17-25, 25-18, 29-31, 25-17, 10-15 loss in Heartland Conference action at the Falcon Dome.
Trailing 2-1 through the first three sets, the Falcons pulled away early in the fourth set, coming back from trailing 3-4 with six straight points, two of them kills by
Caitlyn Guajardo, to climb ahead 9-4. UTPB kept Lubbock Christian from scoring consescutive points over the next 10, out-scoring the Lady Chaps 7-3 to increase the lead out to 16-7. The Falcons closed out the set with four of the last five points, including the last three, and took the fourth on a kill by
Hannah Rebb for a 25-17 win.
Lubbock Christian dominated the early moments of the fifth, scoring seven of the first eight points for a 7-1 lead. UTPB got back within three with a pair of kills and ace from
Taylor Harmon to trail 7-4, but the Falcons never got closer than three points as LCU held the lead around five points late in the fifth for the 15-10 win.
Maddie Johnson and Amy Edwards led all palyers with 16 kills, while
Caitlyn Guajardo had a team-high 15 winners for UTPB.
Morgann Davis added 12 kills on the afternoon.
Ariana Gallardo had 46 assists for the Falcons and
Taylor Harmon led the Falcons with 22 digs.
UTPB is back in action this Thursday, hosting St. Edward's in its only match of the week. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
