Box Score UTPB volleyball was unable to keep UA Fort Smith from some large runs that allowed the Lions to run away in each of the three sets played as UA Fort Smith remained undefeated in Heartland Conference action Saturday afternoon with a 3-0 defeat of UTPB in Fort Smith, Ark.
Trailing 1-0 following a 25-14 loss in the first set, the Falcons claimed their only lead of the day early in the second set when
Jordan McDonald tied the second at 2-2 on a service ace and a
Hannah Rebb kill on the next point put UTPB in the lead 3-2.
UA Fort Smith went on to score 13 of the next 14 points on its way to going on top 2-0 with a 25-11 second set win.
The Falcons hung with UAFS in the third set, keeping within a couple of points throughout the first half until the Lions scored five straight to pull ahead for a 15-9 lead as they eventually clinched the match in three sets with a 25-17 win in the third.
Ryley Carman led UTPB with six kills on the day.
Ariana Gallardo had a team-best 13 assists and
Taylor Harmonhad 19 digs to lead all Falcons.
Payton Hamilton led all players with 10 kills for UAFS. Bailey Katzfey had 31 total assists and Emily Tripp tallied 20 digs.
The Falcons close out a four game road trip tomorrow afternoon, taking on Midwestern State at 3 p.m.
