UTPB baseball opened up its final weekend series of the regular season with a pair of 11-3 and 12-8 losses on the road against Lubbock Christian at Hays Field in Lubbock.
UTPB scored twice in the top of the fourth in the opener, but were already sitting in a 7-0 hole after the Chaps scored five runs in the bottom of the first. The Falcons scored two when
Colin Kowal singled into center to drive in
Ryne Head and
Ryan Arrick.
David Lee later tacked on another run in the team's final trip to the plate in the seventh, scoring
Daniel Andrade on a single into center.
UTPB found itself playing from behind again in game two when Lubbock Christian scored twice in the opening inning. The Falcons grabbed them back in the second, scoring their first on an RBI single by Head into center and added a second on a ground out by Kowal to tie the game at 2-2.
Lubbock Christian came back with its second five-run inning of the day in the third to go back on top 7-2.
Trailing 8-2 in the sixth, Head drove in another run to score Arrick from third on an error by the second baseman.
With Lubbock Christian holding a 12-3 lead through seven, UTPB came up with five runs in the top of the eighth. A bases-loaded walk from Kowal advanced the runners on base to score Andrade, and
Neil Madsen came up two batters later with a grand slam, the team's second in two weeks, to trail 12-8.
The teams close out the three-game set Saturday afternoon, returning to the diamond at 2 p.m.
