UTPB baseball dropped its third game of the weekend Saturday afternoon, suffering an 8-2 loss to #13 St. Mary's at Dickson Stadium in San Antonio.
Andrew Grifol got the Falcons on the scoreboard in the top of the first, hitting his second home run of the season with two outs for an early 1-0 lead.
The Rattlers responded immediately in their turn in the first inning, trying the game on a triple by Mario Maldonado and going ahead 2-1 on a bunt single by Joe Hermsen.
Both teams missed out on an opportunity to score in the third, each leaving a pair of runners stranded on the corners after the leadoff batter reached base.
St. Mary's broke the game open in the fourth, scoring four times on a pair of base hits that scored two runs each to go ahead 6-1. The Rattlers added another run in the fifth to go ahead by six.
Neil Madsen grabbed a run back for UTPB in the top of the eighth when he singled to left center to drive home Grifol for his second run of the afternoon.
Grifol and
Daniel Andrade shared the team lead with a pair of hits on the day, while Drake Roberts led all players on the day with a 4-5 effort at the plate.
UTPB is back at home this weekend, taking on McMurry for three Heartland Conference games. First pitch for Friday's doubleheader is scheduled for 1 p.m.
