4/29/2014 9:49:00 PM

A two-out hit-by-pitch with the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth sent Abilene Christian to a 4-3 win Tuesday night over UTPB at Crutcher Scott Field in Abilene, Texas.

The walk-off run scored in the ninth was the first since the top of the third when ACU scored once to the the game at 3-3.

UTPB scored the first two of the night in the top of the first when the first three batters safely reached base. Andrew Grifol led off the game with a single into center and Neil Madsen followed with a walk. Trey Cochran drove in the first UTPB run on a single to left to score Grifol. Madsen scored later in the inning on a sacrifice fly to right by Daniel Andrade for a 2-0 lead.

The Wildcats cut the lead in half with a run in the bottom of the first and came back with a pair of extra-base hits in the second that each scored a run to take a 3-2 lead after two.

Michael Resnick tied the game in the top of the third, grounding out to short with Madsen on third to even the game at 3-3.

In what amounted to a staff game in the non-conference contest, the Falcons and Wildcats combined to throw 13 different pitchers Tuesday night, with eight different pitchers taking the mound for UTPB. Kyle Bandujo, Jonathan Rodriguez, Lance Fairchild, Kyle Romstadt and Jesse Arnold all pitched at least an inning without giving up a run from two outs in the bottom of the second through the end of the seventh.

UTPB closes out the regular season this week at Lubbock Christian, traveling to Lubbock for three games against the Heartland Conference-leading Chaps. UTPB currently sits in the fourth and final spot to make the Heartland Conference Championships, a game up on fifth-place Arkansas-Fort Smith.
