Lance Fairchild went the distance Saturday afternoon, collecting his first complete game shutout of the year for UTPB's second shutout of the weekend as the Falcons closed out their 2014 home schedule with a 3-0 defeat of Rogers State at Roden Field. The win gave the Falcons a 2-1 series win after the teams split a pair of games Friday afternoon.
Fairchild worked through the Hillcats lineup with relative ease, allowing just four hits and a walk in his second complete game of the season. He put two baserunners on just once in nine innings and kept RSU off the basepaths over the final two innings.
Colin Kowal singled to lead off the bottom of the third and was joined on base when
Neil Madsen walked two batters later. Both runners were in scoring position after a double steal, and both scored later in the inning on a base hit by
Michael Resnick for a 2-0 Falcon lead.
Resnick also drove in the team's third run in the bottom of the fifth, scoring
Andrew Grifol with a single into center for a 3-0 lead.
Following the game, the team celebrated the careers of Seniors
Kyle Bandujo, Madsen,
Ryne Head and
Trey Cochran after playing in their last games at Roden Field.
UTPB continues action over the final two weeks of the regular season on the road, traveling next week to Laredo for three games at Texas A&M International.
