Baseball Opens Final Homestand with 2-0 Win, 7-1 Loss Against Rogers State

4/18/2014 7:41:00 PM

Ethan Blucher pitched six innings of shutout baseball in earning his third win of the season as UTPB Baseball opened its final home series of the season with a 2-0 shutout of Rogers State Friday afternoon at Roden Field. Rogers State came back to hold the Falcons scoreless through the first seven innings to pick up a 7-1 win over UTPB in game two.

Blucher was efficient and quick to open up the three-game set, giving up only three hits and one walk on the day to go with four strikeouts. Brad Paramapoonya wrapped up the game in the seventh with his fourth save of the year.

UTPB scored its runs in consecutive innings, notching the first of the day in the bottom of the third when Trey Cochran doubled deep to left center to drive in Blake Goodwyn from first. Another double in the fourth, this one from Colin Kowal to right, scored Ty Morgan to put the Falcons on top 2-0.

Game two started completely in the favor of the Hillcats, as they did all of their damage with seven runs all scored in five of the first six innings of the game.

Trailing 7-0, the Falcons got their lone run of game two when Cochran's RBI single back up the middle scored Ryne Head.

UTPB looks to score the series win tomorrow afternoon when the two teams return to Roden Field for the third game of the weekend. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. The Falcons will be celebrating the first-ever Falcon Strong Day Saturday along with the playing careers of their four seniors in a postgame ceremony.
