Men's Basketball Shoots Lights Out in 15-Point Win at Lubbock Christian

UTPB Men's Basketball had its best shooting night of the season Saturday in a 99-84 victory on the road against Lubbock Christian in Lubbock, Texas.

The Falcons shot a staggering 69.4 percent from the floor for the game, easily their best mark during the 2013-14 season. They hit over 66 percent of their shots (18-27) in the first half and continued their success in the second, connecting on 16-22 from the field (72.7 percent).

Three different players scored at least eight points an no Falcons hit fewer than half of their field goals in the opening half as the Falcons led by six at the break. 

UTPB led for most of the first half but never could quite pull away. Anthony Dees hit a 3-pointer with 2:46 remaining until halftime to put the Falcons on top 39-33, and a basket with 38 seconds to play by Dwayne Soders brought the lead back to six points for a 43-37 advantage at the break.

Holding a two-point lead through five minutes of the second half, the Falcons made their run with nine straight points to lead 61-50 with just over 12 mintutes to play.

UTPB never led by fewer than six points the rest of the day and held a double-digit lead for most of the final 10 minutes in earning the 15-point win.

Thomas Feeney led all scorers for UTPB with 25 points, hitting 7-of-9 from the field with a 3-pointer and 10 made free throws to go with a team-high six assists. 

Dees added in 20 points, matching Feeney with a 7-9 night from the floor as one of five players in double figures for the Falcons.

The win improves UTPB to 9-7 in the Heartland Conference before entering the final weekend of regular season action. The Falcons host St. Edward's Thursday night and close out the season with McMurry Saturday afternoon as they look to lock up their spot in the Heartland Conference Championships.
