Falcons Can't Hang on to Halftime Lead at Texas A&M International

UTPB Women's Basetball went into halftime holding a three-point lead, but couldn't hang on to the momentum in the second half in falling 57-49 Saturday afternoon against Texas A&M International in Laredo.

The Falcons led by as many as five points three different times in the opening 20 minutes, first after scoring the first five points of the game on a layup by Valerie Barriga to score the first points of the game followed by a 3-pointer by Keyondra White, and the third and final time of the half on a layup by Giselle Loya with 3:18 remaining in the first half before going into the break leading 22-19.

The Dustdevils took control in the second half, scoring the first six points after halftime to go ahead by three. Texas A&M International never trailed once it went back ahead and scored 12 straight points midway through the half to lead by a game-high 12 points at 39-26.

The Falcons were able to close within five points as part of a 10-2 run that featured 3-pointers by Loya and Brianna Jones, but the Falcons could get no close over the remainder of the eight point loss.

White scored 17 to lead all UTPB players with Loya adding 12 points, and Shaquiri Graham ended the day with a team-high 10 rebounds.

Malika Jackson scored 17 points for the Dustdevils who also got 13 points on 5-of-6 shooting from Samantha Chacon.
