2/14/2014 8:30:00 PM

UTPB Baseball opened a four game, three day weekend set with 6-3 and 14-5 losses to Tarleton State Friday afternoon at Roden Field.

The Falcons gave up four runs right away in the first inning in the opening game, all unearned as a pair of errors and four Tartleton State hits helped the Texans to an early 4-0 lead.

Colin Kowal got UTPB on the scoreboard in the bottom of the third, poking a base hit through the right side of the infield to score Brian Brademan and cut the TSU advantage to three.

Following a Tarleton State run in the top of the fourth, the Falcons struck back with a pair of their own on back-to-back hits. Brademan collected his second hit in as many at-bats with a double to left center to score Andrew Grifol and Ryan Arrick singled over the second baseman into right center to drive home Brademan.

Tarleton State scored the last run of the game in the top of the fifth on a base hit immediately following a one-out triple.

Brademan led the UTPB offense with hits in each of his four at bats, collecting a pair of doubles and two singles.

UTPB surrendered the first runs of the game in the back end of the doubleheader as well, giving up back-to-back RBI doubles as the Falcons fell behind 2-0 after one.

The score remained the same over the next two innings, but Tarleton State broke away in the fourth and fifth, scoring a combined 12 runs on 11 hits.

The UTPB offense showed signs of life in the sixth when Neil Madsen, Grifol and Ty Morgan followed a lead-off out with three consecutive singles to load the bases. David Fetkenher and Brademan each came through with RBI singles, and Devin Adams grounded out to third for the team's third run of the inning.

The Falcons added two more runs in the bottom of the seventh, getting one when Grifol doubled into center field to bring home Head from first. Grifol came in two batters later when Travis Sims singled down the left field line.

UTPB is back on the diamond for one game Saturday, taking on Colorado School of Mines 30 minutes after the Orediggers 10 a.m. game with Tarleton State at Roden Field.
