2/12/2014 9:22:00 PM

Playing on the road for the first time in 2014, UTPB baseball came back from trailing 8-0 through two innings to pull out a 12-11 win in 10 innings Wednesday night against Sul Ross State in Alpine, Texas.

Trey Cochran led UTPB with five RBI on three hits, hitting his first home run in the season in the top of the ninth to tie the game with a two-run blast.

The Falcons trailed 8-0 after Sul Ross added to a 2-0 lead with six unearned runs in the bottom of the second.

UTPB got on the board for the first time in the top of the fourth, scoring first when Cochran was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.  Brian Brademan walked a batter later to add another run in the inning, and the Falcons scored again on a double play to score Neil Madsen.

Cochran drove another run in the top of the fifth with a bases-loaded, two-out base hit into left to score Andrew Grifol to trail 9-4.

Sul Ross added a run in the bottom of the fifth, but were held scoreless throughout the next four innings, giving the UTPB offense a chance to catch up with six runs over the final three innings.

Cochran drove home his third run of the night in the seventh with a single to left to plate Grifol before being thrown out on the play to end the inning.

The Falcons came up big in the top of the eighth with three runs on three consecutive plays. David Lee doubled to right to score Brademan,  Ty Morgan grounded out to sencond to score Ryan Arrick, and Grifol doubled to left center to bring home Lee to leave the Falcons down two.

Following Cochran's game-tying homer in the ninth, the Falcons scored for the fourth straight inning when Jose Sierra doubled to left to score David Fetkenher to put UTPB in the lead for the first time in the game. Sierra scored three batters later on an outfield single to right as the Falcons went into the bottom of the 10th leading 12-10.

Brad Paramapoonya improved to 2-0 on the season, pitching the final three innings of the night. He gave up one run in the bottom half of the final inning, but stranded the tying run on base with a fly ball to right to end the game.

The Falcons are back home this weekend, playing a Friday doubleheader against Tarleton State and single games Saturday and Sunday against Colorado School of Mines.
