Box Score All five of UTPB women's basketball scorers scored in double figures Saturday afternoon as the Falcons defeated Texas Woman's 58-54 on the road at Kitty Magee Arena in Denton, Texas.
The Falcons rebounded from trailing by 14 points at halftime and a game-high deficit of 18 points as the Pioneers led 41-23 two minutes into the second half.
UTPB started its comeback nearly halfway through the second half when Valerie Barrige scored a three-point play followed by a 3-pointer for six straight points and
Danielle Wilson hit a layup to turn a 14-point Texas Woman's lead into a six-point deficit.
Brianna Jones scored a pair of 3-pointers followed by a basket from
Giselle Loya off an offensive rebound at 6:07 that pulled UTPB within 49-46, and the Falcons took their first lead of the second half on a three by Loya with 4:53 remaining in the game to go ahead 51-50.
Wilson put the Falcons in the lead for the final time on the day with a jumper at 2:29 to put UTPB on top 55-54, and three more free throws from Loya in the final 21 seconds were the last points of the game in the four-point victory.
Loya led the Falcons with 15 points on the afternoon, hitting 7-of-12 attempts at the free throw line. Barriga added 13 points with three assists, while
Shaquiri Graham and Jones each had 10 points and
Trish Simpson had a team-best nine rebounds.
Emily Spector had a game-high 19 points and 11 rebounds for Texas Woman's in the loss.
UTPB is off for a week, returning on Monday, December 15 at home against Wayland Baptist.
