Bench Leads Men's Basketball to 74-54 Win at Oklahoma Christian

Reserves combined for 47 of UTPB men's basketball's 74 points Thursday night as the Falcons started their 2014-15 Heartland Conference schedule with a 74-54 win on the road at Oklahoma Christian in Oklahoma City, Okla.

Lamar Falley hit 5-of-7 from 3-point range for 17 points on the night and Codye Hatcher led the Falcons with 20 points and 13 rebounds, leading UTPB in both, in his first game of the season on 7-of-9 shooting.

The Falcons came out and held the Eagles to just 7-of-24 (29 percent) shooting as a team in the first half as Falley scored all of his points in the first 20 minutes. He made his first five shots of the night, including four between 13:22 to 11:00, three of them threes, to lead the Falcons from trailing by four to a 22-15 lead.

UTPB went on top by 11 on a pair of Hatcher free throws with 5:20 remaining in the first, and Falley's last three of the night with eight seconds remaining in the first sent the Falcons into the half with a 37-22 lead.

The Falcons led by as many as 28 in the second half on a 3-pointer by Madison Turner and never led by fewer than 15 points as they dominated control of the second half.

Chris Griffin added 12 points and seven rebounds in the starting lineup for UTPB in his first appearance of the season. The Falcons held a 44 to 30 rebounding advantage on the night.

UTPB is back in action Saturday afternoon, taking on Newman at 3 p.m. in Wichita, Kan.
