Box Score UTPB women's basketball rode the offensive glass to an 82-69 victory over Wayland Baptist Monday afternoon in the team's final non-conference game of the season.
The Falcons out-rebounded Wayland Baptist 45-26 on the day and grabbed 24 offensive rebounds in the 13-point victory.
UTPB trailed early on as the Flying Queens held a 16-9 lead through the first four minutes of action.
Giselle Loya and
Valerie Barriga hit threes on back-to-back possessions and a free throw from
Myangel Johnson followed by a layup from
Shaquiri Graham brought the Falcons back to an 18-16 lead.
The Falcons went on top by their highest total in the half when Barriga hit a layup with eight seconds remaining to go into the half with a 44-37 lead.
UTPB came out hot to start the second half, out-scoring Wayland Baptist 16-1 in the first five minutes after halftime. The Falcons remained in control throughout the remainder of the game, leading by a game-high 24 points with 4:53 remaining in the eventual 13-point win.
The Falcons ended the afternoon shooting 44 percent behind the arc, hitting 12-of-27 from deep while holding Wayland Baptist to just one successful attempt from three. Loya and BRianna Dominguez led the charge with four 3-pointers each.
Barriga paced the UTPB offense with 25 points, hitting 6-10 from the field and 10-11 attempts at the line. Loya and Dominguez each had 14 points on the afternoon while Graham recorded a double-double with 13 points and a team-high 11 rebounds.
The Falcons kick off Heartland Conference action this week, traveling north for games at Oklahoma Christian and Newman.
