Women's Basketball Rides Big Second Half to 76-55 Win

Box Score UTPB women's basketball out-scored New Mexico Highlands 50-26 in the second half Saturday afternoon, over-coming a 14-point deficit five minutes before halftime in a 77-56 home victory.

Trailing 26-12 with 5:40 remainin the the first half, UTPB cut the lead down to three behind 11 straight points with 3-pointers from Briana Dominguez and Giselle Loya and went into half down three as Danielle scored the final points of the first half to trail 29-26.

The second half belonged entirely to the Falcons. UTPB went on top for the second and last time in the second half when Valerie Barriga hit the back end of a pair at the line, and went on top by four when she hit a layup and following free throw.

An 11-point run featuring a three by Chelsea Rhamdeow and two from behind the arc by Dominguez placed UTPB in the lead by 13 at 47-34. The Falcons soon led by as many as 23 points behind another 10-straight points and UTPB led by fewer than 20 points just one possession over the final 7:27 of the day.

The Falcons rode a balanced offensive efford on the day as four players reached double figures in scoring. Barriga led UTPB for the third straight game with 13 points. Brianna Jones added 12 points with a pair of 3-pointers, Rhamdeow scored 12 with two from behind the 3-point line, and Dominguez was 3-of-6 from three.

The Falcons are back on the road next weekend, facing Eastern New Mexico and Tarleton State over the Thanksgiving weekend in Lubbock, Texas
