Box Score UTPB men's basketball won its second game in as many days Saturday night, taking an 87-74 win over Huston-Tillotson at the La Posada Classic hosted by Texas A&M International in Laredo.
UTPB started to pull away from a game that had been close through the first 10 minutes as
Thomas Feeney and
Lamar Falley hit threes on back-to-back possessions to go on top 28-19. The Falcons lead slipped to three points two different times over the rest of the first half, but they went into halftime with a 43-37 lead on three free throws from
Phadarius Taylor on the team's final two possessions of the half.
Huston-Tillotson pulled withing a single possession to start off the second half, cutting down the lead to 43-40 in the first minute, but the Falcons quickly built their lead back to nine on basketbs by
Stephan Thompson,
Madison Turner and
Andre Rieder.
UTPB led by as many as 16 points and held a double-digit lead the final 13:27 of the second half.
Taylor led the Falcons with 19 points and 12 rebounds on the night. Falley added 18 points off the bench, hitting 4-of-9 from deep as both players connected on 50% of their shots for the game. Thompson scored 16 on 6-of-9 shooting and Feeney was an assist short of the team's second double-double with 11 points and nine assists.
UTPB opens its 2014-15 home schedule this coming week, hosting Sul Ross Wednesday night at 5:30 p.m.
