Box Score UTPB forward Valerie Barriga has been named the first Heartland Conference Player of the Week for 2014-15, the conference announced Monday afternoon.

Barriga helped carry the Falcons to a 77-73 upset victory over preseason #1 West Texas A&M this past weekend. She led all players in the game with 28 points on 7-of-14 shooting. She hit 12-of-12 attempts from the free throw line in the win and tied for the team lead with five rebounds and five assists while committing just one turnover.

The senior is coming off her first season at UTPB where she led the team with 16 points per game and 6.6 rebounds and was named the Heartland Conference Newcomer of the Year.

UTPB is back in action Tuesday night, traveling to San Angelo for a 6 p.m. contest at Angelo State.
