UTPB women's swimming won nine events and the men took eight first-place finishes as swimming wrapped up the first of two days of competition this weekend against McMurry and St. Gregory Friday night in Abilene.
Sammi Strohmeyer took a pair of wins for the women, winning the 200 IM in 2:19.56 and taking first in the 100 Butterfly with a time of 1:04.22.
Jillian Covey won two events on the night, swimming the 200 Freestyle in 2:05.18 and the 500 Free in 5:40.38. The women received single wins from
Amanda Alspaugh in the 400 IM (4:42.34),
Lauren Porras in the 50 Freestyle (25.75),
Ariana Marek in the 100 Freestyle (56.93),
Kellee de Guzman in the 100 Breaststroke (1:16.59), and won the 200 Freestyle relay with a team of Marek,
Samantha Chin, Covey and Porras in 1:29.89.
Three different men each won a pair of events for UTPB.
Alex Ruata took first in the 400 IM in 4:17.92 and won the 100 Breaststroke in 58.86.
Kyle Marshall won the 200 Freestyle in 1:49.64 and was first in the 100 Freestyle with a time of 49.08.
Jack Maloy won both the 50 Freestyle *22.64) and the 100 Butterfly (53.14).
Mauricio Craig was fastest in the 500 Freestyle with a time of 5:04.27, and the men's team of Marshall, Ruata, Maloy and
Hunter Gnoza won the 200 Freestyle relay in 1:29.89.
UTPB swimming is back in action Saturday afternoon, taking on Wayland Baptist and St. Gregory at COM in Midland at 1 p.m.
